“Until you can hear Jesus in the silence of your own heart, you will not be able to hear Him saying ‘I thirst’ in the hearts of the poor.” – Mother Teresa
In the spring of 2018, prayer led me to a powerful conviction that God was calling me to the city of Baltimore. I had no idea what this meant. None of my job applications came through, I knew one person in the entire city, and I was living out of my van. So I did the only thing I knew I could do. I pulled my van up to Baltimore on June 9, 2018, and I began to walk the streets to come to know the homeless men and women of the city. God immediately blessed these friendships. I fell in love with these men and women, who, by the grace of God, accepted me and invited me to walk alongside them through their lives, complete with all their joys and struggles.
Fast forward to today, and I’m still on the front lines coming to know and love the men and women of the streets; moreover, I’m forming and guiding a growing community of young missionaries at the Baltimore Basilica. I could have never orchestrated this myself. In less than two years, God has removed seemingly insurmountable obstacles and surrounded me with a community of vibrant young missionaries, a dedicated support staff, and an incredible spiritual father. I’m absolutely convicted that the Holy Spirit is doing something amazing in Baltimore. I’m so grateful to have been called into such a beautiful mission, and I cannot wait to see what Jesus wants to accomplish through our community.
Pursuing my calling as a missionary is only possible through the spiritual and financial support of mission partners. Your investment in this mission enables our community to go out and share life with our friends on the street day after day, where we address their biggest source of suffering—isolation—in a way that nobody else can. Your support enables our program to grow, and we intend to have a community of 15-20 missionaries by August 15, 2022. These young, determined men and women will be nourished and equipped through daily opportunities for spiritual, intellectual, and human formation, and they will spend time in prayer before Christ in the Eucharist, interceding for the needs of this suffering city. Your support makes all the difference, and I want to invite you to invest in both me and my community. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know the best way to reach you and I will happily schedule a time to meet! You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
